Park Improvement Projects

The Monmouth County Park System is responsible for maintaining over 17,000 acres of permanently protected open space, including 478 structures, over 140 miles of trails, and some of Monmouth County’s finest natural and historic resources.  Each year the Park System budgets for and undertakes a variety of park improvement projects.  Geographical distribution of these projects changes from year to year, depending on need and opportunity. Park improvements expand recreational opportunities for our visitors, upgrade facilities and infrastructure for continued public use, restore historic sites and structures, and enhance park landscapes through plantings and vegetation management.

Below are the major park improvement projects in progress or recently completed. The list does not include the great number of ongoing ordinary maintenance and land management projects (averaging over 1,300 work requests each year) that are carried out each year by in-house construction crews and the park rangers.
