Basket Making Workshops


Basket weaving is an ancient craft that uses natural materials to make practical things. This series is designed to offer the beginner basket weaver a variety of styles and techniques. Please bring to class shears or scissors, clip clothes pins or larger clips, a small flat screwdriver or an awl. Fees for materials (listed below) are to be paid the day of class to instructor Martha Costain.

All Levels One 5-Hr Session
Japanese Weave Berry Basket
Small, 4”x 5” basket woven in a twill Japanese weave (over one, under two) and features a 4” handle and a unique braided lashing on the rim. Some weaving experience necessary. Woven in flat reed. Materials fee: $12

Classic Market Basket
9” x 4” filled-in base (with chicken feet!) will become a useful shopping or storage basket, approximately 6” tall, topped with an oak handle. Suitable for beginners. Materials fee $15
