Originally called Brookdale Farm, Thompson Park was once home to one of New Jersey’s most elite Thoroughbred estates. In 2024, the Park System completed a historic rehabilitation of the Historic Racing Stable, complete with interpretive exhibits. Park System historic interpreters guide tours and answer public questions.
Requirements:
- Must be 17 years of age and be comfortable with public speaking and interacting with visitors of all ages. Must be comfortable working outdoors.
- Become well-versed with interpretive and background materials, and tour script, which will be provided during training.
- Conduct guided tours of the historic racing stable, interpret the exhibitions, and provide visitors with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the world of thoroughbred racing and the Park System’s historic preservation mission.
- Assist with creation and implementation of additional programs and interpretive materials.
- This position is well-suited for those interested in New Jersey history and historic preservation.
Hours: 18 hours per week, including weekends, May 2-October 18, 2026. A seasonal, six-month position.
