Historic Site Interpreter - Thompson Park

The Historic Racing Stable, part of the Brookdale Farm Historic District at Thompson Park, is one of the largest remaining thoroughbred stables in the state that date to the “Golden Age of Racing.” The building was recently restored and will be open to the public for the first time this spring. New interior exhibits have been installed to help tell the story of the region’s legacy of racing and of the hidden figures who worked behind the scenes. The Brookdale Farm Historic District is on both the National and State Register of Historic Places.
  
Part time seasonal position requirements include:
    1. Must be at least 17 years of age, possess excellent communication skills, and be comfortable interacting with the public and large groups.
    2. Must be comfortable working outdoors.
    3. Become well-versed with interpretive and background materials, and tour script, which will be provided during training.
    4. Conduct guided tours of the historic stable and grounds; interpret exhibitions and provide visitors with a deeper understanding and appreciation of all aspects of the Brookdale Farm Historic District and the Park System’s historic preservation mission.
    5. Assist with the creation and implementation of additional programs and interpretive materials.
Pay: $16.10 per hour
  
Days & Hours: 18 hours per week including weekends, beginning late April-mid October. A seasonal, six-month position.
