Holmdel Park is one of Monmouth County's most popular locations for active recreation and nature appreciation. Acquired by the Park System in 1962, just shy of one million visitors a year enjoy this 564 acre site with over 10 miles of forested trails, Historic Longstreet
Farm, the Shaw Arboretum and both winter & summer activities, from ice skating and sledding to tennis and fishing.
With all of the actvities comes the need for improvements and upgrades. Specifically, a new paved loop will link the Pond View and Forest Edge areas of the park with the group picnic facilities and the playgrounds. This project helps the park meet objectives specified in the Americans with Disabilities Act and provides opportunities for individuals in wheelchairs or with other mobility difficulties to safely access areas of the park that were previously challenging for them.
The new trail also provides a firm surface for parents and grandparents pushing strollers and pulling wagons. When complete, the project will also help control a few long-standing pond-related issues. The paved path will significantly reduce issues with the existing gravel roadway and improve post-rain pedestrian traffic flow around the pond. Also, when the sledding hill is in full operation, the paved path will improve access issues to the hill area. The construction project is part of the Park System's on-going commitment to the upgrading of facilities and amenities as time and funding allow.
Picnic Areas
Holmdel Park features reservable group picnic areas and is a great
spot to host a family reunion, an office get together, or a bunch
of friends.
Trails
Walking
trails wind through the shady woods and rolling hills. There is
a fitness trail too. The rolling terrain will challenge some hikers.
Cyclists and equestrians must remain on the roads at this popular
park. Enter from Longstreet Road. (10 miles of trails)
