Monmouth County Board of Recreation Commissioners
The Monmouth County Park System was created in 1961 by the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders. In order to supervise the Park System's development and activities, the Board of Chosen Freeholders established, by authority of NJSA 40:12-1 et seq, the Monmouth County Board of Recreation Commissioners. This made it responsible for the operation, maintenance, and development of parks and recreation programs. In addition, the Board serves as a coordinating agency between the state and local municipalities.
