The Board of Chosen Freeholders has allocated $2 million from the annual Monmouth County Open Space Trust Fund for cooperative projects with Monmouth County municipalities. Both land acquisition and development for park, recreation, and open space purposes are eligible for funding.

The Monmouth County Municipal Open Space Grant Program is a competitive program. The project eligibility and evaluation criteria are described in the Policy and Procedures Manual. A copy of the 2010 manual and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Sheet are posted here - click below.

Applications for 2010 funding were mailed to Mayors, Administrators and Clerks of all Monmouth County municipalities on May 3, 2010. The 2010 filing deadline is 4pm, Wednesday, September 22.

The Board of Chosen Freeholders selected the following projects for 2009 funding at its December 22, 2009 meeting:

  • Asbury Park: Springwood Park and Recreation Area (Acquisition) $86,000.00 
  • Belmar: Dempsey Park (Development) $175,000.00
  • Brielle: Brielle Park (Development) $250,000.00 
  • Eatontown: Wolcott Park (Development) $175,000.00 
  • Fair Haven: DeNormandie Waterfront Park (Acquisition) $250,000.00
  • Keyport: Skate Park (Development) $52,000.00
  • Little Silver: Memorial Park (Development) $67,000.00
  • Manalapan: Braun Property (Acquisition) $180,000.00
  • Middletown: Conifer Tract (Development) $250,000.00
  • Millstone: Millstone Park (Acquisition) $250,000.00
  • Neptune City: Memorial Park (Development) $197,000.00
  • Red Bank: Count Basie Park (Development) $250,000.00
  • Spring Lake: Marucci Park (Development) $175,000.00
