Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center Group Activities

Thank you for your interest in Group Programs at the Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center. The staff at the Environmental Center is dedicated to providing an enjoyable experience of learning and discovery related to watersheds, rivers and lakes, wildlife, freshwater wetlands, and habitat protection. All programs must be arranged at least three weeks in advance. In some cases, it is advisable to plan 6-8 months in advance.

Programs for K to 2nd Grade  

  • Little Critters: Discover the little animals that call the park home. Participants will make a fish craft and explore the outside world for insect life. The program will also include a live animal show.
    • Duration: 1.5 hours
    • Minimum: 12, Maximum: 75
    • NJCCS for Science: 1.2, 2.5, 3.4, 5.5, 5.8, 5.10, 6.6

  • Welcome to the Reservoir: Students are introduced to the Environmental Center; activites include a live animal talk, a fun game, and a short nature walk.
    • Duration: 1.5 hour to 2 hours
    • Minimum: 12, Maximum: 75

  • Nature Presentation: Participants are introduced to our natural world through the use of live animals and nature nicknacks.

Programs for 3rd to 5th Grade

  • Bugs, Birds, and Biodiversity: Students investigate insect, bird, and mammal adaptations and the importance of biodiversity during a lab activity. Program also includes a live animal talk and naure walk.
    • Duration: 1.5 hours
    • Minimum: 12, Maximum: 75
    • NJCCS for Science: 2.2, 2.6, 3.4, 4.4, 5.1, 5.4, 5.5, 5.10, 6.6, 9.2
    • Prices: $5.25 per child IC ($6.25 per child/ OC)
  • Pond Study: Students go out in the field to observe, collect and identify microscopic and macroscopic vertebrates (animals with backbones) and invertebrates (animals without backbones). Available May through October.
    • Duration: 2.5 hours
    • Minimum: 14, Maximum: 50

  • Freshwater Monitoring and Management: Students will learn how to monitor a freshwater system with biological, chemical and observational testing methods. They will collect and analyze data, discuss the impact of human activities on freshwater wetlands and streams and consider how to protect and manage water resources.

  • Boat Tour (All Ages): Take a boat tour of the reservoir to observe wildlife and learn the history of the area. Available Monday to Friday, May through October
    • Duration: 1 hour
    • Minimum: 17, Maximum: 25

  • Exploring the Reservoir (2nd Grade and Up): This program includes a one-hour nature walk and a one-hour boat tour of the reservoir. Available Monday to Friday, May through October
    • Duration: 2 hours

    • NJCCS for Science: 2.6, 3.4, 5.5, 5.8, 5.10, 6.6, 9.2

  • SONAR (3rd to 12th Grades): With a nature walk, boat tour, and lab activities, participants learn about the human effects on a watershed. Available Monday to Friday, May through October
