The Monmouth County Park System manages over 18,000 acres of parks and open space. As part of ongoing natural resource management and park planning activities, the Park System evaluates field conditions and implements management actions to achieve our resource stewardship objectives. The Park System is offering a seasonal job opportunity to conduct invasive species management, resource/botanical inventories, work with volunteers, and evaluations using established resource monitoring methodologies, with a concentration on forest health.
   
Hours:
24-40 hours per week for a term of approximately four months. Scheduling can be flexible within general work week hours and occasional weekend work with volunteers.
  
Pay:
Starting at $15.75 per hour
  
Location
: The position is based out of Thompson Park, located at 805 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft, NJ 07738. Field work is conducted in various parks throughout the county; a vehicle is available.
  
Requirements:
  • Applicant currently holds a valid driver’s license
  • The ability to properly identify native and invasive plants of Monmouth County
  • The ability to conduct outdoor surveys for several hours in rough terrain and varied weather conditions
  • The ability to way find using maps and GPS
  • The ability to keep accurate records and draft reports
  • Interested in gaining practical professional experience in the field of ecology, environmental science/stewardship, botany or related field.
  • Knowledge of GIS and database applications and GPS technology is desirable; training can be provided. The Park System has an existing inventory of resource data, maps and GIS support.
