Summer Activities

Enjoy summer at a county park. Warm weather activities include:

Guarded Swimming

Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park, Long Branch       

Lifeguards are on duty weekends and holidays starting Saturday, May 28 and daily June 18 through September 5. Guarded swimming hours are from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. Remember, swimming is only permitted when lifeguards are present. Park access passes for 2016 are currently available. Prices are:

  • $45 for ages 13 to 17
  • $70 for adults 18 to 64
  • $25 for adults 65 and older 

Weekday park access passes are $8 for individuals 18 years old and over; those 17 and under are free. On weekends and holidays, the cost is $8 for individuals 13 and over; those 12 and younger are free. The cost of a daily parking pass is $8. Season parking passes are $70.

Park access passes and parking passes are needed through Monday, September 5. Both daily and seasonal park access passes are available at the Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park Pavilion, Ocean Avenue, Long Branch, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekends, and will be available daily starting June 18. Onsite sales must be cash or check.

Season park access and parking passes are also available at the Monmouth County Park System Headquarters, Thompson Park, Newman Springs Road, Lincroft, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays), from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., until June 17. 

Open Pool at the Rec Center  
Fort Monmouth Recreation Area, Tinton Falls   

Take a dip at the Fort Monmouth Recreation Area this summer. The outdoor pool will be open from Saturday, June 4-Sunday, August 28.  See our Open Pool Schedule for August 2016.  An Early Bird Pool Workout will be offered from 7:30-9 a.m., Monday-Friday. Pool passes are available for purchase onsite. The cost is:

  • Family Season Pass (up to 4 people): $200
  • Individual Season Pass: $100
  • Monthly Family Pass (up to 4 people): $75
  • Monthly Individual Pass: $40
  • One Day Family Rate (up to 4 people): $20
  • One Day Individual Rate: $7

Discover a variety of fish, crabs and other sea creatures as we pull a seine net through the calm waters of Sandy Hook Bay. It will be a fun time for everyone as we find out what lives near the edge of Sandy Hook Bay. Closed-toe shoes are required. Meet on the beach near the park entrance. The program will not run during inclement weather. Parents or guardians are required to stay with and supervise their children. No swimming during the event. FREE!

Boat Rentals  

Manasquan Reservoir, Howell

Rent a Rowboat or Kayak
Motor boat rentals from April 1-October 31
Kayak rentals from May 1-October 31
At the Manasquan Reservoir Visitor Center, park patrons ages 18 and older can rent rowboats (1-hr $14.49 or 4-hrs $35.51); electric motor powered rowboats (4-hrs $46.26); and kayaks (1-hr single person $14.49 or 1-hr double person $20.56). Cash or check only. A $10 deposit is required for 1 hour rental; $20 deposit required for 4 hour rental. (Prices do not include sales tax.)

Sailboat Rentals
June 11-August 31
Are you a sailor without a boat? A limited number of 15’ American (2-3 people) and 12’ Laser Pico (single adult or with 1 child) sailboats are available for rent. Renters must provide a Red Cross, US Sailing or Monmouth County Park System sailing card.
The cost is $55 per boat for 2 hour rental; cash or check only.

Turkey Swamp Park, Freehold

Rent a Kayak, Canoe or Paddleboat
Boat rentals are available weekends only from May 1 through mid-June, daily through Labor Day, and weekends only again from Labor Day through Columbus Day.
Boat rental hours are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The cost is $14.49 an hour. Each additional 15 minutes is $4.44. Double kayaks are available for $20.56 an hour. A refundable deposit of $10 is required for individual rental. Group rentals are available. (Prices do not include sales tax.)

Thompson Park, Lincroft

Marlu Lake Canoe Rentals at Thompson Park
(ages 3 and up, under 18 with adult)
All equipment is provided; limited number of canoes available. The cost is $15 per boat for 1-3 people for 2 hours of canoeing; cash or check only.

Marlu Lake Canoe Rentals are available on the following weekends from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.:

    • September 24 & 25

These 45-minute tours of the Manasquan Reservoir, Howell, are narrated by Park System Naturalists and include opportunities to view local wildlife including turtles, egrets, herons, ospreys and perhaps a bald eagle. Life-jackets are required. The cost is $6 per adult and $4 per child, 12 and under. Please call 732-751-9453 to confirm schedule as tours are both weather and water level dependent. All tours leave from the Visitor Center. The schedule is as follows:
