Adult Day Services

Program Overview
Our adult day program, MCRAC, meets at Dorbrook Recreation Area, Colts Neck, and is in session on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The program year currently runs from September through June; during the summer many of our participants attend our Adult Adventures summer camp.

The focus of our program is to provide activities designed to foster the acquisition of skills, build positive social behavior, develop interpersonal confidence, increase independence, promote personal choice, and maintain and enhance physical health and well-being:

  • Embrace your artistic side with classes at the Creative Arts Center in Thompson Park and at the Monmouth Museum.
  • Learn the culinary arts and focus on meal preparation, money management, and other related skills.
  • Develop self-confidence and personal expression through collaborative drama classes with the Two River Theatre in Red Bank.
  • Participate in fitness, yoga and other mindfulness programs.
  • Explore the world of horticulture in collaboration with staff at Deep Cut Gardens.
  • Further independence through other trips into the community such as museums, restaurants and visiting many of our other county parks.
  • Bring your own ideas, experiences and creativity to fruition by starting your own club or small interest groups.
  • Make your voice heard by becoming a part of our advocacy group.

Program History
The program began as the “Monmouth County Recreation Activity Center.” The full title has since been dropped as the program’s goals and objectives have evolved, and now simply goes by “MCRAC.”

MCRAC was originally started as a grant-funded drop-off respite program at Thompson Park in 1985 for adults with special needs. The program moved to Dorbrook Recreation Area in the mid 1990s.

Over the decades, the program has continually evolved and has been reworked to meet new Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) standards. From 2007 until 2016, MCRAC was a qualified day program in the DDD Real Life Choices program, and has been an approved DDD Day Habilitation Program since 2017.

While the location, participants and program set up have changed over the years, the mission to provide progressive services to our participants has never wavered.

Funding
We are an approved Day Habilitation Program in the DDD/Medicaid Supports and CCP Programs.

Transportation
We offer transportation designated points within the county; at this time there is no door to door option.

Most participants utilize third party transportation services through their DDD budgets or have been approved for discounted fares with Access Link through NJ Transit.
