Claypit Creek 

2010 

  • Popamora Point, Highlands, opens as terminal section of Henry Hudson Trail.
  • Union Transportation Trail opens its first two miles.
  • Park System opens 44-acre Claypit Creek section of Hartshorne Woods Park.
  • Deep Run Recreation Area established in Marlboro.
  • Monmouth County's open space tops 15,000 acres as the Park System celebrates its 50th anniversary.

2011

  • Bel-Aire Golf Course is redesigned following acquisition of adjacent property.
  • Park System Volunteer Program (1,000+ members) undergoes significant expansion with new programs for docents, Beach Nesting Bird Monitors, and skilled pruning and garden teams.

2012

  • Superstorm Sandy hit in October 29. Post-storm cleanup included repairs to buildings, trail bridge, tree removal, marina repairs and more. 
  • Park System establishes the Swimming River Reservoir Greenway, Tinton Falls. 
  • Opening of two new bridges formally completes Thompson Park's 4.2-mile paved loop trail.

2015

  • Total park visits was 6,061,292; total park acreage was 16,557 (excluding easements).  
  • A 120-ton, WWII-era gun barrel from the Battleship New Jersey was transported from Virginia to Battery Lewis in the Hartshorne Woods Park Rocky Point section in Highlands, to become part of the newly-established Navesink Military Reservation.
  • The Park System hosted its first Creative Arts & Music Festival to celebrate local artisans. 
2016

2017 

  • Renovations to repair storm damage to the Henry Hudson Trail (west of Popamora Point) were completed.  
  • Spring Valley, formerly known as Peppadew Fresh Farms, was acquired as an addition to Wickatunk Recreation Area, Marlboro. It is currently being used as a wedding venue.
  • A 38-acre parcel of land, including the former St. Basil’s monastery, was added to Freneau Woods Park, Aberdeen.
2018  
  • The Holmes Hendrickson House was transferred to Holmdel Park, Holmdel, from Monmouth Historical Association.
  • Restored Historic Battery Lewis in the Hartshorne Woods Park Rocky Point section, Highlands, opened seasonally for tours.
  • The Sensory Trail at the Sunnyside Equestrian Center, Lincroft, underwent improvements.
