Work continues on the reconstruction of the Sprayground. We are hopeful that the project will be completed before the end of the summer so visitors will be able to enjoy the improvements. Thank you for your patience and please check back here for periodic updates.

In the meantime, if you are looking for other ways to cool off this summer, check out the Open Swim schedule at Fort Monmouth Recreation Area, Tinton Falls, or hit the beach at Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park, Long Branch.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

This active recreation site features 535 acres which include a barrier-free playground, tennis courts, two swimming pools (for lessons only), a Sprayground, an inline rink, basketball courts, open fields, and 2.3 miles of paved trail for walking, biking, and in-line skating. There are also athletic fields available for use for games only, no practices. Please consult the Athletic Field Rentals link to the right under "Facilities" for further information.

Challenger Place – A Playground for Children of All Abilities
Challenger Place is a place for all children to play in Monmouth County. This universally accessible playground provides all children, at their own level of play, an opportunity to laugh, play, grow and learn together. This play facility, opened in June 2004, includes elevated surfaces that are accessible to those in wheelchairs and Braille signs for individuals who are visually impaired. Each of the three play structures has areas in where children of varied abilities can play together, enjoying fun and stimulating activities. This playground project was a joint venture of the Monmouth County Park System and Challenged Youth Sports, Middletown and is the first universally integrated playground in New Jersey.  An additional universally accessible playground is Tony's Place, located in Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park, Long Branch.

Sprayground
Adjacent to Challenger Place is the Sprayground. This water-enhanced playground is scheduled to undergo a renovation.  Reconstruction of the sprayground will begin in the spring of 2016. Once the project is complete, visitors will be able to enjoy new spray features, a new cushioned surface, and an improved water filtration system.

New Pool  Building

The old pool building at the site was obsolete and inadequate for current programming needs.  The new pool  building, located south of the pools, will have changing areas, toilet rooms and a small office.  Access to the pool area will be through the new building.  Additional site work amenities include new circulation routes, sitting area and rejuvenated landscaping.  Construction is underway and expected to be completed soon.  See our building plans. | See our site layout plan.

Model Rockets and Airplanes
The use of model rockets and radio controlled model aircraft is permitted, with appropriate permit, in designated areas on the south side of Highway 537. For details on obtaining a permit, and other requirements, please see our complete rules

PLEASE NOTE:  Large group (over 50 people) gatherings are not available at this site. A Picnic Shelter can be rented for a max of 50 people. Please see Picnic Area & Shelters for more information and nearby County Park System facilities where larger groups can be accommodated.

Trails
A paved trail winds its way around and through the north side of this active park. The 2.3 mile trail has two loops for you to choose and vary your trail experience. The park also offers an in-line skating rink for casual, rental or league use.
