This active recreation site features 540 acres which include a barrier-free playground, tennis courts, two swimming pools (for lessons only), a Sprayground, an inline rink, basketball courts, open fields, and 2.3 miles of paved trail for walking, biking, and in-line skating. A bicycle repair station with a tire pump and tools has recently been added near the basketball courts. There are also athletic fields available for use for games only, no practices. Learn more about Athletic Field Rentals.
Sport Courts
Tennis and basketball courts, as well as the in-line skating rink are available during posted park hours on a first-come, first served basis. Park System programs take priority. No private lessons, team practices, or leagues are permitted, except by permit or those offered by the Park System. The in-line skating rink is a shared use facility between skating activity and pickleball games. Portable pickleball nets are set up for open play  from Sunday through Wednesday, as weather permits. Nets are removed for open skating activity from Thursday through Saturday. For information on instructional programs and camps, visit our programs and registration page.

Lion's Den

Challenger Place – A Playground for Children of All Abilities
Challenger Place is a place for all children to play in Monmouth County. This universally accessible playground provides all children, at their own level of play, an opportunity to laugh, play, grow and learn together. This play facility, opened in June 2004, includes elevated surfaces that are accessible to those in wheelchairs and Braille signs for individuals who are visually impaired. Each of the three play structures has areas in where children of varied abilities can play together, enjoying fun and stimulating activities. This playground project was a joint venture of the Monmouth County Park System and Challenged Youth Sports, Middletown and is the first universally integrated playground in New Jersey.

In 2019, the Park System completed the addition of the Lion's Sensory Den to Challenger's Place. Designed specifically for blind or visually impaired children, the Lion's Sensory Den features a water spray misting column; a spinning, two level globe; three drums; and three xylophone-style instruments. The addition is thanks to donations from the Colts Neck Lions Club to the Monmouth County Friends of the Parks. Find out more about this project.

An additional universally accessible playground is Tony's Place, located in Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park, Long Branch.

Sprayground is open Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend; weather permitting. See details

During the renovation, the site received all-new spray features including “raining leaves,” domes of cascading water, and a series of high to low play troughs. A new bright blue surface was installed and the pumping system was replaced for improved water filtration.

Designed to provide refreshment for park visitors and participants in Park System summer camp programs, the Sprayground is a great place to cool off and play with water. Individuals and families are welcome. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Group outings are not permitted.

Model Rockets and Airplanes
The use of model rockets and radio controlled model aircraft is permitted, with appropriate permit, in designated areas on the south side of Highway 537. For details on obtaining a permit, and other requirements, please see our complete rules

A paved trail winds its way around and through the north side of this active park. The 2.3 mile trail has two loops for you to choose and vary your trail experience. The park also offers an in-line skating rink for casual, rental or league use. A bicycle repair station with a tire pump and tools has recently been added near the basketball courts.
